I want to do that well Already you’re touching on the controversy of what is blues because a lot of people will tell you that this is blues and this isn’t blues whilst others will say Oh no no blues encompasses all these very many diverse styles.

I’m even as I’m asking this. I know it’s an impossible question but what defines something as a blues number. There are a number of definitions so blues tends to be three tends to be three chords tends to be one four five. So if you’re in a you’re playing the a and you’re playing the d and the e okay one four five. That tends to be the situation with blues tends to be three chords Also, it tends to be delivered in a 12 bar format right every 12 bars.

It Repeats Every 12 Bars, So

that’s one definition of it no that’s not always the case. For example, Johnny Hooker plays a song on one chord or you know. There is no chord challenge structure but equally that’s blues as well. there’s a dancing a dancer’s answer which is the 12-bar structure so when you’re choreographing yeah for something that’s a blues right you’re you’ve got a different number because normally things are in eighths and sixteens, but blues will be in twelves um but that’s nothing to do with the feel of the music at all. No that’s just a structure so you know where the song is going yeah what else defines blues I don’t know I don’t.

I Know That As Any Musical

scene can be quite can become quite cellular. It would be difficult for an act to get a gig at a blues festival if they didn’t tick certain boxes Ah okay hats obviously hats yes and generally loud guitars or acoustic guitars or a number of you know twanginess twanginess you could get some twanginess. I mean that would be Americana rather than blues Okay Yeah See I I I have a limit for twang in this I have a you know I can I can tolerate trying this to a point and then it’s just too twangy Okay um I’ve been to some blues dance events where they’ve got in a chap who’s ever so good at being twangy yeah, but he just can’t stick to a tempo and when you’re trying to dance to him Yeah you can’t feel where you are. in the music and and you know listening to him separately from dancing right you might go Oh that’s nice bit twangy yeah um He doesn’t work with dancing with with the twangier ones.

No It Really Doesnt Okay All Right, But

yeah Yeah I can see that you want a three piece really don’t you for dance thing you want drums, bass and guitar or drums and piano too Yeah a bass is nice nice deep pulse exactly all right so you say loud guitars and tiny guitars um so do you have any special tunings or anything like that for blues Yeah yes If you see this thing on my finger here I’ve been wearing that is called a slide right so i’m going to pick this guitar up and show you okay okay. This is a big old resonating guitar and particularly for blues. One would tune. this to an open chord right so if I were playing normal guitar.

Id Put My Fingers On Like This And

that would make that chord but what I’ve done is tuned the guitar to that chord already so I don’t know okay, which means I can get a slide and I can go and it stays together exactly yeah right yeah and it also means I can leave leave the strings rigging got it so it’s like the many drones on a bagpipe or something and now you can have can hit any note leave it ringing and it won’t clash exactly it might not be the great note, but it’s not going to be the wrong note. It’s tuned into the position right so that’s quite a bluesy thing to do right now something has to be said about the fabulous bluesy state of rust you’ve got this. Internet did you have to spend ages attacking it with a dremel to get that yeah No this is I’ve had this guitar for 12 years and it’s done about 1500 gigs or something like that right so you just leave it steeped in sea water overnight each time when I bought it it looked like that that’s right like new and I mean 1500 gigs with my hand. You can see my hand sits there and you can see where it right yes yeah so it’s it’s not fake that’s real that’s me.

I Did That Okay But I Feel

that you haven’t done anything to arrest it you you’ve been quite happy that it’s gone in that direction it looks great does it does it add to the sound that can you can you hear the rust yeah a little bit it has mellowed actually it’s not quite. As tiny as it was yeah! In all seriousness, it has mellowed in over time. What happens with this guitar because it looks so beautiful is I’ll.
