Today Im Being Introduced To An Indian
side of martial art, now just as Kung Fu.’s are something like an umbrella term which covers all the Chinese martial arts and karate covers all the Japanese ones. There’s shasta Vidya, which is something like an umbrella term similar that covers all the Indian martial arts that were developed in Indian subcontinent over centuries. Some of them even millennia and a lot of these got distilled into a fighting system, particularly in the Punjab with the famous Sikh regiments that were later fighting with the British and that the famous served we probably heard of the Bengal Lancers, for instance, and the British when they’re in India. At last a lot of the Sikhs as a martial race and there were some very high-status Sikh regiments formed but historical fact you didn’t actually have to be a Sikh to be in one.

These Regiments So There Were Lots Of Bengal
Lancers, who were not Sikhs, even though they were wearing a turban as part of their uniform anyway. I’ve just been shown an alternative way of hitting someone because that’s what you’re interested in is isn’t it you’re watching this channel so you’re interested in various different ways of hitting people Now you may be taught some martial art and be told. This is the way to punch so you might be told that you should push off the back foot and twist your body and hit hard with the the back of your hand facing upwards wham like that and that’s the way to get power in your punch and you practice that and you find oh yeah. After a while you’ve got the skill and you can do it and it actually works and you may you may be gulled. into thinking that that is the way to punch and that other ways are wrong but then you may go to a WIng Chun class and someone say no no just just punch from from the elbow here in on the centerline, it’s a really short punch and you punch with these bottom two fingers not the knuckles and that works absolutely fine-there are many ways to punch and you can there are many methods of fighting and if you have a system.
If You Like A Fighting, You
may find that a particular style of punching suits that system now in UK a style video I’ve just been shown I’m new to this the techniques are quite different. Now the the philosophy behind this is you’re imagining that you’re fighting in a battle. So you don’t want to step behind you because there might be a guy. Guy so you never do anything where you’re stepping back in order to attack someone or in order to defend yourself. You hold your ground because you’re on the battlefield there’s a guy standing behind you.
There Is No Room Behind You
so don’t step back besides you may be fighting in a muddy puddle and you can’t push off the ground reliably in a lot of these places because you may just slip so it’s also assuming that you’re wearing armor or you’re likely to be wearing armor and you may be fighting for quite some while so if you use torque that is to say a twist of the body and you swing your body around like that and put a lot of power into a blow. You may find that you miss your target or he evades and you over rotate and now the weight of your. Armor as well as the amount of oomph you just put into that bloke carries you around and you’ve got to bring everything to a halt and then everything has got to come back again and that wastes time and energy so The philosophy behind this style of fighting is that your arm is like a bag of water and you want to use the weight of that bag of water to wall up your opponent and so you don’t use a stiff arm with all the muscles engaged all the way up you just have enough stiffness in your fists, so that your your wrist doesn’t collapse when you hit and otherwise you think of your arm is like a bag of water and you try if you can to start the blow coming all the way back from your shoulder blade and you don’t put loads of torque. In you throw it out and I have just been taught all this by my good colleague Asante here in Sunny Hammersmith in London and he’s just shown me all this Ok so I’m new to it so I’m probably not going to do this brilliantly well, but I hope well enough that you get the general idea so I’m going to be punching with these two top knuckles. I’m going to be forming the fist slightly oddly at least I think it’s likely oddly with my thumb crimping in on the top of my hand there and my hand is going to be twisted forwards slightly a bit like if I’m holding a pistol that’s that was that the way you got me to envision it so a bit like a so I’m gonna be hitting with that bit.
I Need Enough Stiffness And The Wrist
so that this. Doesn’t just collapse when I hit but otherwise well. I’ll show you first. The stiff way is that something a bit like the Wing Chun way, which is your bit like that. I’m hitting the surface very sharply UK but what what Santa wants me to do is to go through this pad and keep the the attack goings of digging in and going through so I relax my arm and I try to come from a bit further away.
I Dont Know How Generous Is Going
to be again so something like I think he may have been you know a bit generous to me there but but yeah so so that the stiff attacks the surface a bit like a slap attack the surf, but it hurts, but it doesn’t really do a lot of deep damage something like that, whereas what we’re trying to do here without. loads of talk I’m out pushing off the back foot is more something like that wasn’t as good as the first thing, but but okay now The next thing is what if I’m not just attacking him with the weight of my arm. As is this this bag of water. I’m actually going to drop and I drop by lifting up my front foot so my body weight comes down standard posture it with this style of fighting is to keep your your your chin down a bit to protect the neck and I drop down and I you show me it with the elbow as well. Okay this isn’t another example the same idea, but from the elbow so I drop into him and send him send him flying back that way so so this can be extended to weapons.
Im Just Gonna Go Over There
and get the stick right careful. I now have a stick so you got to imagine that this is a sword and okay wow. He has such confidence in me Okay so this is a sword now and we’re fighting a battle so if I put loads of torque in and apply all the wrong principles that I was talking about with the empty hand and I miss whoa I’m in trouble. Okay all this is exposed he gets in he bits me out looking over looking very winch in there okay so what I want to do is is. I want to have a softer, more relaxed arm and I want to punch.
I Want To Swing Into Him
and one way to give a little bit of power is to drop my weight. I’m gonna exaggerate it because I’m not very good. at it when you get better at it. I’ve been told it doesn’t show so much, but if I drop my weight back from here so my backside sticks out slightly that actually shot that has the effect of bringing this part where my hand is towards me and increases the flick at the end, so from so I can do something like that all I can see in your eye, but I didn’t do it very well okay so okay so I come out but it’s to come back towards me as well. So if this is a blade.
You Also Get The Benefit Of A Draw
cut whilst are at it and if something has gone wrong, you’ve come back into a useful position for defending yourself Okay so smooth fairly upright UK it’s slightly slightly box alike and in that you the to the touch in getting. down yeah so but it’s not it’s not though the the very upright wing-chun or so okay so you’ve got a water-like way of striking and you can generate enough power this way Yes. It’s true that if you are on good solid ground and you’ve got good grippy boots on and you put you come right back ignoring the fact that they may not be room and you put loads of torque in and yes wow You can get to shooting by the power doing that. But if you can if you have a fighting method that gives you a blow that is adequate to do the job of harming your enemy. There is no point in generating way way way too much power which exhausts you and makes you vulnerable if anything goes wrong to a counter-attack so this is a a way of generating enough power.

The Job Thank You Very Much
indeed, but there’s more right now You may be familiar with the side-handle Baton. Sometimes it’s a compared to the the Okinawan Qin handle where they swing and then the thing swings out. You know that so you’re holding it there and it does something like that and that generates a lot of speed in the tip because you’re moving something close to you and then letting the the mass of things swing out so something similar perhaps is happening with this where the end is as heavy as at least as heavy as you are so what I’m touching you right old buddy is basically falling through so it might be a very heavy impact Someone dropping something heavy on you is still heavy right yeah and if you look at whips that are designed to do harm they have very thick heavy. A tiny movement there generates an awful lot of power at the tip when that shockwave goes down there so you’re you’re trying to turn your body into a heavy whip and whack the other guy, which which which omitted the I didn’t demonstrate well but I’m new to it.
You Know Ive Only Had What Like 15
minutes instruction in this so okay so you it’s the body. The movement starts somewhere around here at the bottom of my torso. I’m dropping it there and I try to get that shock wave Oh really-to drop into it okay and it’s it’s a defensive thing as well and making myself a small target and keeping everything together okay right thank you so much Sydnee man.
